Yankee Gas Bargaining Unit Employees Agree to New Four Year Contract

MERIDEN, Conn., December 21, 2001 (NYSE: NU) –
Yankee Gas Services Company, part of the Northeast Utilities system, and the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW), Locals 420 and 457, have agreed to a new four year contract retroactive to December 1, 2001. The two bargaining unit locals represent 212 Yankee Gas employees, including AMR drivers, service mechanics, welders, distribution mechanics and clerical employees. The contract was ratified on Thursday.
“This agreement is a win-win for both the Company and our employees,” said Dennis E. Welch, president and COO of Yankee Gas. “With this new contract, our employees will receive enhanced benefits while at the same time there are provisions to improve the Company’s operational efficiency and, in the end, provide better service to our customers.”
The contract runs through December 1, 2005.
