Yankee Offers Seminars on Natural Gas Technologies
Effectively managing energy costs and needs with distributed generation & cooling
Mary B. Ingarra
BERLIN, Conn., August 27, 2003 (NYSE: NU) –
Today’s competitive business environment requires energy that keeps up with constantly changing needs, while helping businesses to manage their costs. Businesses or industries that use a lot of electricity, have a thermal load (i.e. heavy reliance on hot water usage) and require reliable, uninterrupted power supply may benefit from integrated cooling, heating and power systems that combine power generation with other energy requirements. Exploring how businesses of all sizes can benefit from these traditional and emerging natural gas technologies will be the focus of two free educational seminars for business and industry leaders, offered by Yankee Gas Services Company. Yankee Gas is Connecticut’s largest natural gas distribution company.
The first seminar will be held
September 9, 2003, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza, Shelton
. The second seminar is scheduled for
Tuesday, September 30, 9:30 a.m. –
2:30 p.m. at La Renaissance in East Windsor
. Both seminars are free and open to business and industry energy decision-makers across Connecticut who want to learn more about these technologies and the potential for putting them to work for their businesses.
Distributed generation (DG) includes technology such as natural gas microturbines and reciprocating engines. Natural gas cooling technologies are emerging as a way for businesses to defray the summer’s high electrical costs and balance their overall energy load. When a business requires periodic heavy usage of electrical power, it experiences a “spike” in its energy load and its energy cost because electricity costs increase when demand increases. Having more energy options to choose from can help businesses to reduce their annual power costs by having the most cost-effective resources at their disposal.
An expert panel of speakers will offer information on both DG and gas cooling technologies that are available today:
Tim Callahan, Yankee Gas
Brian Cullinane, Clover Corporation
Jeff Glick, Tecogen
Bob Olmstead, Aegis Energy
Barry Sanders, American DG
Chip Smith, Huntington Power
Dean Clark, Yankee Financial
