Yankee Gas Completes Painting of LNG Tank in Waterbury;
Mayor Jarjura and Representative Berger express appreciation
BERLIN, Conn., Thursday, October 16, 2008 —
Yankee Gas Services Company has cleaned and painted its liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank visible from Route 8 in Waterbury’s industrial zone, removing rust spots caused by construction scaffolding. Subcontractor Rockwood Corp. of Syracuse, N.Y., started cleaning the tank in May and completed the job in August.
“It took 600 gallons and three coats of paint, but thanks to good weather we finished the process safely and ahead of schedule,” said William Quinlan, vice president, field maintenance, Yankee Gas. “We expect this coating to last about 20 years.”
“Yankee Gas has made the city’s skyline more attractive,” said Mayor Michael J. Jarjura. “The company has always been a good corporate citizen. We commend their effort to address citizen concerns.”
“We’re certainly pleased with the result, and we look forward to a continued great relationship with Yankee Gas,” said State Representative Jeffrey J. Berger.
This $108 million facility holds the vapor equivalent of 1.2 billion cubic feet (BCF) of LNG, or 14.6 million gallons — enough natural gas to heat 85,000 homes for a month.
