UConn's School of Engineering Honors Yankee Energy's Dennis Welch

BERLIN, Conn., May 1, 2002 (NYSE:NU) –
Dennis E. Welch, president and chief operating officer of Yankee Energy System, which includes Yankee Gas Services Company, has been presented with the 2002 Distinguished Engineering Service Award from the University of Connecticut’s School of Engineering. Welch was honored for his role in fostering a strong technology-based Connecticut economy and in cultivating strong industry/academic partnerships with the School of Engineering.
“We are pleased to honor Dennis for his conservation leadership and significant contributions in helping to shape environmental awareness and corporate policy, both within Connecticut and indeed the nation. His vision and insight have helped build understanding and alliances among industry, government and academia," said UConn's Dean of Engineering Amir Faghri.
Welch is a member of the UConn School of Engineering’s Advisory Board. He serves as vice chairman of the New England Gas Association’s Board of Directors and is also a member of the American Gas Association’s (AGA) Leadership Council. In addition, he serves on the Board of Trustees for The Nature Conservancy.
Welch holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety Management from Indiana State University, Terre Haute. He holds a master’s degree in Business and Human Resource Management from the Hartford Graduate Center of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In addition, Welch completed the Environmental Leadership Program at Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
Welch is a resident of Newington, Conn.
