MERIDEN, Conn. – November 14, 2001 (NYSE: NU) – Yankee Gas Services Company
is a proud sponsor of “What’s Going On? Kids Speak Out on Terrorism”, a live, in-studio program for children designed to address some of the fears and concerns of Connecticut’s younger population in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The forum is scheduled to air on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) on Saturday, November 17 at 10 a.m. It will feature more than 20 children, between the ages of 10 and 16, who will ask questions and discuss their concerns with an in-studio panel that will feature State Health Commissioner Joxel Garcia, M.D., Clinical Social Worker Karen Carney of the D’Esopo Resource Center in Wethersfield, as well as representatives from Connecticut’s Office of Emergency Management, the FBI and the military.

The one-hour interactive forum will focus on educating children about recent events and answering their questions about issues such as terrorism attacks at home, concerns about bioterrorism, Connecticut’s security measures and emergency preparedness, as well as ways they and their families can cope during these uncertain times.

“Yankee Gas is pleased to support a program that specifically addresses the concerns of Connecticut’s young children and teen-agers,” said Dennis E. Welch, President and COO, Yankee Gas. “As adults, we know how we feel about today’s world events, so we can imagine how vulnerable children must be feeling. It’s our hope that this forum will help address their concerns and give them some measure of comfort while helping to allay their fears.”

Pre-teen and teen viewers from around the state will be invited to participate in the discussion via e-mail at cptvinfo@wedh.pbs.org, or they can call in their questions at 1-800-842-2788. CPTV plans to provide taped copies of the program to schools throughout the state.
