Yankee Gas Awards Scholarships to Four Children of Employees
Meriden, Plantsville, Warren and West Hartford students recipients

MERIDEN, Conn., August 15, 2001 (NYSE: NU) – Yankee Gas Services Company has awarded four $1,000 scholarships to employees’ children who are pursuing advanced education in either college or vocational programs. The scholarship program is now in its eighth year.

“These students were selected from a group of applicants who posses high values and earn good grades,” said Dennis E. Welch, Yankee Gas president and chief operating officer. “We believe investing in the education of our future workforce has a direct benefit to the economy and society as a whole. We are confident they will succeed in their academic pursuits and are proud to support them.”

2001 scholarship recipients earn academic honors and various awards
This year’s recipients of the annual Yankee Gas Scholarship come from across Connecticut and will be pursuing a diverse range of educational opportunities. Each will receive a $1,000 scholarship a year for four years.

Christopher J. Winslow, of Meriden, graduated Xavier High School in Middletown this year and plans to study engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. In high school he was a member of the Latin Honor Society and National Honor Society and earned three letters as a member of Xavier’s varsity wrestling team. Rensselaer’s School of Engineering also named Winslow a Rensselaer Dean’s Scholar. He is the son of Jonathan and Sylvia Winslow. Sylvia Winslow is employed by Yankee Gas as a Marketing analyst.

Natasha Majeski, of Plantsville, a graduate of Southington High School, is entering her fourth year of study at the University of New Haven where she is majoring in criminal justice. She is a member of the American Criminal Justice Association and the university’s Delta Epsilon Beta sorority; was named to the university’s Dean’s list; and serves as a student government orientation leader. She is the daughter of Robert and Diane Klezun. Robert Klezun is a
supervisor in Purchasing, Materials Management and Inventory Control who works at Yankee Gas’ Waterbury warehouse.

Melissa Bellman, a resident of West Hartford, is a 2001 graduate of Conard High School and plans to study biology at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA. In high school she earned maximum honors; received a drama award and participated in the school’s Summer Arts Festival.
She is the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Bellman. Michael Bellman is an Area Operations manager for Yankee Gas’ Cooper Street work area in Meriden.

Krista Moore, of Warren, graduated from Wamago Regional High School this year and will attend Western Connecticut State University to study accounting this fall. She is a volunteer at HORSE of Connecticut and earned a band academic award while in high school. She is the daughter of Allen and Irene Moore. Allen Moore is a Meters & Service supervisor based at Yankee Gas’ Danbury work area.

Scholarship eligibility
The Yankee Gas Scholarship Program is managed by the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc. (CFSA), a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization. Awards are granted based on academic standing and/or financial need. Students must be dependents of Yankee Gas Services Company employees, up to age 23. Employees must have at least one year of service with the Company to qualify for the program. Scholarships are renewable, based on academic record.

Past recipients have attended the University of Connecticut, Bucknell University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Eastern Connecticut State University, Pennsylvania State University, Temple University, University of Hartford, University of South Carolina, Yale University, Wellesley College, Springfield College, University of Massachusetts and the University of Maryland at College Park.
