Media Advisory: Yankee Gas Lng Roof-Raising Tomorrow Postponed
Sandy St. Pierre
BERLIN, Conn., Nov. 28, 2005 (NYSE: NU) – Plans to raise the roof of Yankee Gas Services Company’s new liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank in Waterbury have been cancelled for tomorrow due to construction issues and the potential for poor weather. The roof-raising is being rescheduled, possibly as soon as next week.
When lifted into place, the 400,000 pound steel roof will float to the top of the tank on a cushion of air, at a rate of approximately 18 inches per minute. The $108 million LNG facility has been under construction since January 2005. The storage tank, when complete, will hold the liquid equivalent of 1.2 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of vaporized natural gas. The plant is scheduled to be online for the 2007/2008 heating season.
