Melissa Fuller appointed to the board of directors of New Opportunities, Inc.; Don Doring retires from the board after 20 years of service.

BERLIN, CONN., May 13, 2005 -- While Yankee Gas Services Company is providing natural gas service to customers in 71 Connecticut towns, its employees are providing an additional service by offering business and leadership skills to their communities. Melissa Fuller, a key account executive in Yankee’s Waterbury Work Center was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the New Opportunities, Inc. Fuller joins the organization as Don Doring, Yankee Gas sales manager, retires from the New Opportunities board after 20 years of service to the organization.

New Opportunities, Inc., is a Community Action Agency providing a range of social services aimed at improving the quality of life and economic standard of living for residents of Waterbury and 26 surrounding communities. The group's programs include energy assistance programs, job training, tutoring and substance abuse prevention.

Yankee Gas also contributes $5,000 annually to New Opportunities for its Afro-Latin-Indian Scholarship & Competition. This program awards scholarships to students in grade 12 studying art and writing, and also provides awards for younger students who submit art, essays or poetry to the competition.

"New Opportunities knows that by looking to both public and private sectors, we can help solve some of the problems facing low-income people.
