Yankee launches three new Web sites to support business strategies
Navigation, information streamlined; convenience, easier access highlighted
Sandy St. Pierre
MERIDEN, Conn., August 14, 2001 (NYSE: NU) –
Yankee Energy System (YES), part of the Northeast Utilties system, has launched three new Web sites making it easier for customers and business partners to interact with and find the information they need, right at their fingertips. The new sites –
– support the business and customer needs of YES and its subsidiaries, Yankee Gas Services Company and Yankee Energy Financial Services Company.
“These newly designed sites make it easier for visitors to navigate and find the information they need when doing business with us or to learn more about our businesses,” said Dennis E. Welch, president and COO of Yankee Energy System. “This evolution of Yankee’s Web sites makes them more effective communications and marketing tools, serving our many different constituents, from customers and gas suppliers to regulators, shareholders and journalists.”
Yankeegas.com – customer-friendly, information resource
The new Yankee Gas Web site offers greater functionality for customers, including the ability for customers to view their gas usage history; learn where natural gas is available and how to connect; tips for businesses when working with gas suppliers; current rates and regulations; the ability to sign up for programs and services, including service plans and Yankee’s Budget Payment Plan; locating a qualified contractor in Connecticut; online ability to make a change of address or transfer service; new products and services, and gas technologies for home and business.
“We’ve made it more convenient for our customers to reach us, without the need to call us. They can request services from us online, in the convenience of their own homes and on their schedules, not ours,” said Welch. “This site also responds to the needs of gas suppliers, who frequent our site daily and need very specific information. And, we’ve created a new section for our trade ally partners, giving them access to information they need when specifying natural gas or choosing appliances or technologies.”
The next phase of the site’s development will be an enhancement of online services, including online bill payment.
Yankee Financial highlights financing programs
The newly redesigned Yankee Financial Web site puts the spotlight on the already successful financing programs offered for residential and commercial and industrial energy users.
The site links directly to the Hometown Energy Loan Program for residential energy-related home improvements. HELP® provides loans up to $20,000 for energy projects including new central heating or cooling systems, replacement windows, roofing and siding and is marketed to public gas utilities across the U.S. through the American Public Gas Association (APGA). There’s also a direct link to Energy Key®, a financing program for the energy equipment needs of small commercial businesses. The site also features a financing program for larger commercial, manufacturing and industrial businesses.
Yankeenergy.com portal to subsidiaries
The new YES Web site serves as a portal to its subsidiaries, Yankee Gas and Yankee Financial. It also links to a Media Center for reporters; the Investor Relations site of NU’s Web site (
, and job postings within the NU system. In addition, the site promotes Yankee’s community involvement in Connecticut.
Yankee Energy System, Inc.,(YES) which is part of the Northeast Utilities system, includes Yankee Gas Services Company, the largest natural gas distribution company in Connecticut serving approximately 187,000 customers in 69 cities and towns throughout the state.
