CL&P and Yankee Gas Announce Two More Utility Days
Mitch Gross, CL&P
BERLIN, Conn., May 8, 2009 –
Limited-income customers who may be having trouble paying their Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) or Yankee Gas utility bills will get more opportunities to meet face to face with company representatives as CL&P and Yankee Gas have added two more Utility Days to their schedule.
"We're very pleased that customers have responded in such large numbers to our call asking those who need some help paying their CL&P or Yankee Gas bills to contact us," said John Ferrantino, director of Customer Solutions, CL&P. "So far this year, about 125,000 CL&P customers have made payment arrangements – either at a Utility Day or by phone - 28,000 in the month of April alone. For those who have not had an opportunity to make arrangements, we're encouraging them to attend one of these weekday events in Hartford or Waterbury."
The additional Utility Days will be held in:
Tuesday, May 12, 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Community Renewal Team (CRT), 555 Windsor Street
Thursday, May 14, 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.
New Opportunities, Inc. (NOI), 232 North Elm Street
Utility Days provide financially challenged customers with an opportunity to qualify and sign-up for CL&P and Yankee Gas special assistance programs and services. Customers are asked to bring copies of their latest utility bills. The events also help bring energy awareness to CL&P and Yankee Gas customers through informational and educational displays, giveaways and materials. Additionally, customers will have the opportunity to find out if they are eligible to participate in the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund's (CEEF) free weatherization program. Called WRAP, this in-home program helps customers save energy by repairing leaks and drafts, providing energy-efficient lighting and other services that can help reduce energy costs.
Customers can also make payment arrangements by phone. CL&P customers should call 1-800-286-2828 (860-947-2828 in the Hartford and Meriden calling areas). Yankee Gas customers should call 1-800-438-2278 to request payment arrangements for their gas bill.

The CEEF promotes efficient energy use, helps residents and businesses save on their electric bills, advances economic development, reduces electric demand and helps reduce air pollution. Connecticut Light and Power administers the CEEF through conservation programs that serve residential customers, including low- and fixed-income customers, as well as business and municipal customers. Connecticut’s energy-efficiency programs are funded by the conservation charge on customers' utility bills.
