Wicks named director of field operations for Yankee Gas

MERIDEN, Conn., December 4, 2001, (NYSE: NU) –
Larry Wicks has been named director of Field Operations for Yankee Gas Services Company, part of the Northeast Utilities system and Connecticut’s largest natural gas distribution company. In his new position, Wicks will oversee all field and technical operations and maintenance functions within the gas utility. Prior to being named to this position, Wicks served as director of Process Management for Yankee Gas.
“Larry has been instrumental in leading Yankee’s efforts to improve many aspects of its business through process management over the last few years,” said Christopher L. Beschler, vice president of Field Operations. “We are fortunate to have Larry’s expertise and I’m confident in his leadership to manage the critical functions that we rely on to ensure the safe, reliable delivery of natural gas to our customers.”
Prior to joining Yankee in 1999, Wicks was director of Process Management for Six Sigma Qualtec Incorporated in Arizona. He spent most of his professional career with Florida Power & Light (FPL), holding several positions that included manager of Distribution Planning & Reliability, Distribution Operations superintendent and several engineering posts.
Wicks holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida and an Associate of Science from Santa Fe Junior College, Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 1974, he co-authored an article, “Self-excited, Alternating, High-Voltage Generation Using a Modified Electrostatic Influence Machine,” in the
American Journal of Physics.
He was designated a Statistical Applications Expert with FPL and a Statistical “Black Belt” with Six Sigma Qualtec.
Wicks is a Life Member of Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society; and Eta Kappa Nu, National Electrical Engineering Honor Society. He was a past member of the Florida Engineering Society and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). He currently serves as Adjutant of the American Legion Post 73 in Wallingford.
He lives in Wallingford with his wife, Sharyn.
