WMECo Deploying Crews to Help Hard-hit Southeastern Mass.

Hundreds of Thousands of NSTAR Customers Without Power

Springfield, Mass. (February 9, 2013) – Though significant amounts of snow blanketed our region, WMECo and its customers were spared the brunt of what was a monumental blizzard in Southeastern Massachusetts. Now WMECo is moving into assistance mode to provide support for its sister company, NSTAR. As of Saturday morning as many as a quarter-of-a-million NSTAR customers were without power.

“We came through this storm relatively unscathed,” said WMECo Vice President Bob Coates. “However the coastal regions of our state got hit hard, with punishing winds and heavy snow and it’s time for us to send much needed assistance to NSTAR and its customers.”

WMECo is sending lineworkers and tree crews to New Bedford to work side-by-side with NSTAR crews on what will be a multi-day repair and restoration effort. WMECo is sending the maximum number of available personnel possible, while making sure there is adequate coverage to address any outages or emergencies throughout its service territory. The company will continue to monitor weather forecasts and will quickly call back WMECo crews if necessary.
