WMECo to Conduct Aerial Tree-Trimming

Helicopters will be used to trim trees, as part of vegetation management program

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 30, 2012 – Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) will be conducting aerial tree-trimming activities along the 939 line in western Massachusetts from Tuesday, April 3 through Tuesday, April 17, 2012. WMECo will be trimming trees along 9.2 miles of its right-of-way from Hinsdale into Lanesborough, west of State Route 7.

A low-flying, black with maroon-striped helicopter with tail number N765KV will be used to perform tree-trimming. The aircraft will fly over the transmission lines where trees will be trimmed at a low speed and an altitude of approximately 250 feet. The aircraft is expected to work the hours between 7:00 a.m. and approximately 5:00 p.m. All flights are weather permitting; adverse flying conditions will require rescheduling of the flights.

The flights will cover the following communities: Cheshire, Dalton, Hinsdale and Lanesborough.
Aerial vegetation survey activities will be performed in addition to tree-trimming on Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13. Aerial surveying will be performed using a silver and blue helicopter with tail numbers N39MK.
