WMECo Power Restoration Nears Completion

Company urges crews to “finish safe and strong”

Springfield, MA (October 31, 2012) – WMECo restoration of electricity to customers in the aftermath of Sandy is nearly complete. Since the beginning of the storm, the company has restored power to 45,000 customers. Crews have been relocated to address the small number of remaining outages to the hard hit hill towns. WMECo expects to return electricity to those customers by this evening.

“Our crews and support staff have been working tirelessly since Sandy made landfall and we want to commend them for their dedication and commitment to our customers,” said WMECo President Peter Clarke. “We are confident we will meet this evening’s deadline and want to thank our customers for their understanding during the duration of this historic storm.”

Because there's a possibility there could be isolated incidents where repairs to individual homes are still needed after power was restored to entire neighborhoods, WMECo is asking any customers remaining without power after this evening to call 1-877-OK WMECO (1-887-659-6326.) Customers can also continue to track the outages online on our website

In preparation for Sandy, WMECo brought in additional crews from as far away as Michigan to assist in the restoration effort. The company also enhanced its communication with customers and community leaders, which has been very successful throughout the repair and restoration effort. For the first time, customers have also been able to track WMECo’s progress online as well as report any outages using web-based tools.
