WMECo to Host “Utility Days” Beginning This Month

Customers are invited to get help paying their bills, enrolling in assistance programs and connecting with local agencies

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 26, 2012 – Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) will host three “Utility Days” throughout its service territory beginning this month. Customers facing financial challenges are invited to get on track with payments, sign up for WMECo assistance programs and connect with other local assistance agencies.

Customers who attend Utility Days will meet one-on-one with a customer service representative to develop personal budget plans, manage outstanding balances and reduce future bills through energy efficiency programs. Electronic payments can be made at the events through a checking account or by MasterCard credit card.

The dates for the 2012 Utility Days are as follows:

PITTSFIELD
When: Saturday, March 31, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: WMECo’s Pittsfield Work Center

HADLEY
When: Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: WMECo's Hadley Work Center

SPRINGFIELD
When: Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: The Federal Room at Technology Park
1 Federal Street, Springfield, MA 01105

Customers are asked to bring their latest electric bill to the event, along with proof of gross household income from the past four weeks (or proof of unemployment or disability) and proof of public benefits, such as Fuel Assistance, WIC, MassHealth, etc. Visit

WMECo encourages customers to pay an outstanding balance or develop a payment plan in advance of the end of the winter moratorium. Customers who have been protected from electric service shutoff for nonpayment will no longer be protected when the moratorium ends. Such customers should call WMECo at 877-OK-WMECO (877-659-6326) to prevent disconnection.
