Customers Now Have More Time to Get Bill Payments on Track
Winter moratorium period extended to April 15

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 13, 2012 – Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) urges customers who are behind on bill payments to get on track before the winter moratorium ends on April 15, 2012. Customers who have been protected from service shutoff over the winter months will no longer be protected when the moratorium ends.

To pay outstanding bills or enroll in a payment assistance program, customers should immediately call Credit and Collections at 800-286-2828 for assistance from a customer service representative.

“Fortunately, our region experienced relatively mild temperatures this winter, which helped reduce energy costs for our customers,” said Peter J. Clarke, president and chief operating officer of WMECo. “The extension of the moratorium period will allow additional time for customers who are behind on their bills to make payments, establish a payment plan or sign up for assistance programs,” Clarke said.

Customers facing financial challenges are encouraged to attend Utility Days, beginning this month. Customers who attend Utility Days will meet one-on-one with a customer service representative to develop personal budget plans, manage outstanding balances and reduce future bills through energy efficiency programs.
