WMECo Crews Return Home From Successful 5 day Mutual Aid Mission

WMECo President Thanks Crews for a Job Well Done

Springfield, Mass. (February 14, 2013) – WMECo crews have returned to Western Massachusetts after spending 5 days restoring electricity, repairing downed power lines, and replacing broken poles in southeastern Massachusetts. Friday’s historic blizzard ripped through coastal towns causing massive damage and widespread outages.

“WMECo crews were geared up and ready to go where needed after the last snowflake fell in Western Mass.” said WMECo Vice President Bob Coates. “We brought in a fully staffed, supplied and supervised contingent, working out of a mobile command center, safely and efficiently getting the lights back on for 10’s of thousands of NSTAR customers.”

Accustomed to working in tough conditions WMECO crews came prepared bringing ATV’s, snowmobiles, and tracked vehicles to maneuver in snow, ice and mud.

Line men, tree crews and support personnel from all 3 of NSTAR’s Northeast Utilities sister companies, along with contractors from as far away as Canada worked around the clock to restore electricity to NSTAR customers.

Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo), a Northeast Utilities company (NYSE:NU), transmits and delivers electricity to 210,000 customers in 59 cities and towns. For more information, please visit our website:
