WMECo Crews Travel to Maryland to Help Restore Power

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 29, 2012 – Please join Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) and Rep. Richard E. Neal (D-MA) on Monday July 2 for tours of two of the largest solar facilities in New England.

"As a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I worked to expand the Investment Tax Credit to allow local utility companies to take advantage of it. With that change, WMECo began using the credit, which not only saved money, but allowed them to pursue solar projects like the ones we are visiting today in Springfield and Pittsfield. They also took advantage of bonus, or accelerated depreciation, which I've consistently championed. I look forward to working with them in the future to help bring additional renewable energy initiatives to western Massachusetts," said Congressman Richard E. Neal.

“We are pleased to show Congressman Neal this tangible example of the benefits that large-scale solar projects bring to the Commonwealth and to our customers,” said Peter Clarke, WMECo president and chief operating officer.

“Due to Congressman Neal’s support, investment tax credits for renewable energy projects bring even greater benefits to our customers,” said Clarke.
