WMECo Ready for Latest Winter Storm
Company encourages customers to be prepared for storm-related power outages

Springfield, Mass. (February 4, 2014) – As New England braces for another winter storm, WMECo is prepared to safely and quickly respond to any damage it may cause. The company will activate its Emergency Response Plan early tomorrow morning and will have crews at the ready across its service area. Though forecasts call for less wind than with past storms, this storm is expected to bring with it heavy, wet snow that can pose an increased threat to trees and electrical equipment, possibly resulting in storm-related power outages.

WMECo customers can report power outages by calling 1-877-OK-WMECO (1-877-659-6326) or by filling out an
outage form on the company’s website. WMECo reminds all customers to stay clear of downed lines and report them immediately to the company and local emergency officials. The company also reminds residents to be sure to keep heating-system vents clear of accumulating snow.

WMECo suggests customers making preparations for this and future storms consider assembling a storm kit to help during power outages or other emergencies. Some suggestions for items to include are:

· Flashlights with spare batteries
· A battery-operated radio or TV
· First-aid kit and medications
· Canned, freeze-dried or dehydrated foods
· A manual can opener
· Bottled water
· Baby or pet supplies
· Important phone numbers

While back-up emergency generators can be very useful during power outages, it’s crucial to personal safety and the safety of others – including WMECo line crews – that they be installed and operated properly.
