SELECT ENERGY ANNOUNCES WIND-POWER ALLIANCE WITH COMMUNITY ENERGY

Choosing NewWind Energy® Can Help Area Businesses Achieve Environmental Goals

BERLIN, Conn., April 13, 2004 – Select Energy announced today it has formed a strategic alliance with Community Energy Inc., marketer and developer of emission-free NewWind Energy®. As a result of the agreement, business electric customers in upstate New York can secure environmentally-friendly power as part of their overall power supply.

“More businesses are exploring ways to make environmentally-conscious choices in their energy sources. We offer the opportunity to secure competitively-priced, reliable power with a ‘green’ component that’s tailored to meet the customer’s needs,” said Stephen J. Fabiani, Select Energy’s vice president of retail sales and marketing. “Today’s successful companies and institutions know the importance of being good neighbors and responsible partners with their communities,” Fabiani said.

According to Community Energy’s president and chief executive officer Brent Alderfer, Select Energy allows interested businesses and organizations to invest in the future while making a difference today. “The supply source for NewWind Energy® starts and ends right here at home, not halfway around the world. That choice means cleaner air, economic spending at home, and increased energy security – and it’s industry leaders like Select Energy that are making it happen,” said Alderfer. Community Energy supplies wind energy from wind farms located in Fenner and Wethersfield, New York.

Select Energy’s regional office in Syracuse, New York, is offering NewWind Energy® to its customers in addition to electricity and natural gas. Annette Durnack, regional vice president, reports, “Select Energy is one of the only full-service energy providers to give customers the ability to buy wind power as a means of diversifying their energy purchases.” According to Durnack, Select Energy now offers customers volume-discount pricing according to the amount and length of their wind power contracts. Select’s current marketing efforts are focused initially on Niagara Mohawk’s customer territory; however, customers throughout New York State can now purchase wind power from Select Energy. Plans are in development to make wind power available to other businesses and institutions throughout the northeastern U.S. Interested businesses can contact Select Energy’s Syracuse office at 1-888-758-6888 for information.

Select Energy and Community Energy currently provide NewWind Energy® to the U.S. General Services Administration at the Binghamton (NY) Federal Building, the first federal site to be powered entirely by wind-generated electricity. Compared to the average generation mix in New York’s wholesale electric spot market, the Binghamton Federal Building’s wind purchase is estimated to offset annually approximately 772,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, a leading cause of global warming. The estimated emission reductions are equivalent to planting over 52,000 trees.

Community Energy Inc. is a leading marketer and developer of wind-generated electricity, under the NewWind Energy® brand. CEI has made clean energy options available throughout all of New York, directly and in partnership with utility suppliers. It is responsible for the largest wind energy purchases in New York State, and has helped bring four new wind farms on line in the mid-Atlantic region with more on the way as a result of emerging customer demand.
