MANCHESTER N.H., January 26, 2009****Taking advantage of the natural resources of two New Hampshire towns will now be more enjoyable thanks to the Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) Environmental Community Grant Program which has funded new park benches in Effingham and trail signs in Fremont.
Effingham Conservation Commission – $900 has been awarded for the funding of three new benches to be placed in the Larry Leavitt Preserve, Effingham’s 14.5 acre wetland preserve. These benches, made of recycled plastic timber, will be used for relaxation and for the observation of the park’s diverse wildlife habitat.
Fremont Conservation Commission – $850 has been awarded to Fremont for the creation of new trail signs for the Glen Oaks Town Forest. These signs will help visitors navigate the trails safely and easily.
Since the Environmental Community Grant Program began in 1999, PSNH and its corporate parent, Northeast Utilities, have provided grants of $250 to $1,000 twice a year to motivated groups and individuals in order to assist them in putting their environmental ideas into action for the benefit of our communities. Funded projects make meaningful and self-sustaining improvements to the environment or in public attitudes about the environment.
PSNH environmental grants are awarded twice each year. The application deadlines are April 15 and October 15. Applications should be for a proposal that can be fully funded by the grant without utilizing other funding sources. Each request for funding is evaluated based on the environmental benefit the initiative will produce. Applications are available online at psnh.com.
