Manchester, NH, September 16, 2008****Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) is accepting applications for its Environmental Community Grant Program. Through this twice-yearly program New Hampshire organizations actively fostering environmental awareness, education, and habitat improvement are eligible to receive cash grants ranging from $250 - $1,000.

Eligible projects include those that protect or preserve the environment, provide education on environmental issues of local interest, or reclaim and rehabilitate damaged natural environments through organized cleanup efforts.

Environmental project leaders throughout PSNH’s service territory are encouraged to apply. Applications must be received by October 15, 2009 and may be submitted online via www.psnh.com.

PSNH environmental community grants were awarded earlier this year to the Harris Center for Conservation Education to support training of the Conant High School “Envirothon Team,” which competes against other schools on topics such as aquatics, forestry, soils and wildlife. A grant was also awarded to Oyster River High School for the construction of a footbridge linking the high school to the Oyster River Watershed walking trails, which are used as an outdoor classroom by biology and environmental science classes.

PSNH is New Hampshire's largest electric utility, generating and distributing clean electricity for more than 490,000 homes and businesses in an environmentally friendly manner. Each year, PSNH supports dozens of forest protection, energy conservation, and environmental organizations through both financial contributions and generous employee volunteerism. PSNH is proud of its commitment to the environment and willingness to create innovative solutions to environmental issues.
