MANCHESTER, N.H. - March 1, 2010 – PSNH crews have made record progress over the last four days to restore service to customers who lost power in the massive wind storm that lashed the Northeast early Friday morning.
So far, PSNH has restored service to more than 252,000customers in less than four days’ time, setting a new record for the company’s fastest restoration effort following a major storm.
94 Percent of Impacted Customers Restored
About 94 percent of PSNH customers affected by the wind storm have been restored since customer outages peaked Friday evening at 269,000. As of 9 p.m. today, PSNH reports that about 16,000 customers remain without power.
Many of the more than 600 crews on hand will continue to work overnight, and we expect any customers remaining without power after midnight to be restored on Tuesday.
PSNH Provides Service Restoration to the Meter
PSNH is unique among utilities in the state in that it is responsible for service restoration to the meter.
PSNH’s policy is to repair all service drops for its customers as part of its storm restoration effort. Several of the remaining outages that PSNH crews are working to resolve were caused by damage to individual meter boxes and/or the point of attachment on the customer’s property. Individual service repairs can take an hour or much longer, depending on the severity of the damage and the degree of difficulty crews face in accessing damaged equipment.
More information on power outages and storm restoration is available on the company's website at www.psnh.com/stormsafety.
