BERLIN, Connecticut – June 4, 2009 – Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU) today announced that Jeffrey D. Butler has joined the company as president and chief operating officer of The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) effective July 1, 2009. He will report to Lee Olivier, chief executive officer - CL&P and executive vice president and chief operating officer – NU, replacing Raymond P. Necci, who is retiring after 33 years with NU. CL&P is a subsidiary of Northeast Utilities and serves 1.2 million customers in 149 Connecticut cities and towns.
“Jeff brings 27 years of effective utility leadership and management experience to this position,” said Charles W. Shivery, NU’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “As we continue to evolve as an energy solutions provider for our customers and the region, Jeff’s leadership will play a critical role in delivering operational excellence and a positive experience for our CL&P customers.”
Butler, 53, served as senior vice president – energy delivery at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), headquartered in San Francisco, California, with responsibility for all aspects of electric and gas utility operations for approximately 10 million gas and electric customers. His extensive utility experience includes leading energy delivery, transmission and distribution, operations, maintenance, construction, customer field services, and metering activities at PG&E.

A Registered Professional Engineer, Butler earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and electronic engineering from California State University, Chico.
