BERLIN, Connecticut - May 27, 2009 – Connecticut Light & Power's (CL&P) environmental management system has again achieved ISO 14001 certification following a recent audit of CL&P facilities across the state. For this recertification, auditors working on behalf of the International Standards Organization (ISO) toured CL&P facilities in Greenwich, East Hampton, Cheshire, Madison and Berlin.

"Our environmental management system allows us to continuously monitor and improve performance within the letter and spirit of federal and state requirements. Certification to this rigorous standard shows that every day and in every facility, CL&P employees demonstrate environmental leadership,” said Sri Madhusudhan, director, Environmental Property and Management for CL&P.

In their final report, auditors called CL&P’s program a “well established, continually improving management system.” Auditors were especially impressed with CL&P's use of technology that protects electrical equipment from corrosion while also protecting the environment from the release of cooling oil and other substances.

ISO 14001 is an international standard that acts as a guideline for companies to improve their environmental performance. It provides a framework to ensure a continual cycle of planning, implementing and reviewing actions in order to meet environmental obligations.
