BERLIN, Connecticut – June 26, 2009 – With heavy storms moving through the state, Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) wants to remind all customers to stay away from downed power lines. Any wires-down situation is a very serious matter and you should always assume that any utility wire that has come down is energized.

Keep your distance from any downed power line and call 911 or CL&P at 800-286-2000 (860-947-2000 in Hartford/Meriden) to report the downed wires.

The following guidelines are important to ensuring the safety of our customers, employees and emergency personnel:

Immediately after a major storm such as this, CL&P workers patrol to locate dangerous areas and take steps to make them safe by de-energizing downed wires. CL&P crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power throughout the state and will work until the last customer is restored.
