BERLIN, Connecticut - October 6, 2009 - The Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) is reminding area residents that tree trimming is under way in South Windsor. The $130,000 project is taking place in the vicinity of Fitch Boulevard, Sullivan Avenue, Clark Street, Pleasant Valley Road, Graham Road, Nevers Road, Troy Road, Brookfield Road, West Road and Foster Road. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Trimming is vital in reducing the number of tree-related power outages and improving service reliability for customers of CL&P.

Trees are the number one cause of power outages and regularly scheduled trimming is needed to reduce service interruptions. Trimming is also necessary to provide sufficient working space so line workers can maintain a safe distance from the power lines when repairing them.

Crews from ABC Professional Tree Services Inc., are working under the guidance of CL&P Vegetation Management Coordinator Barry Croke. The tree trimmers are working to create an average clearance zone of eight feet alongside electric lines, 15 feet above the lines and 10 feet below.

Prior to performing any tree work, representatives from ABC Professional Tree Services Inc. identify trees that are dead, diseased, or structurally weak and capable of touching the electrical lines. Following the inspection, residents are informed of the intended work. Notification cards will be left at the doors of property owners who are not at home. Residents having questions can contact South Windsor Tree Warden Karl Reichle at (860) 648-6366 or CL&P's Barry Croke at (860) 665-6149.
