BERLIN, Conn. – January 12, 2012 – High school students in Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) and Yankee Gas service territories competing in the upcoming 2012 Connecticut FIRST Robotics Competition can apply for grants to help fund their entries, thanks to CL&P and Yankee Gas.
Winning teams will be eligible for grants ranging from $500 to $1000 each.
"The Connecticut FIRST Robotics Competition is just as exciting for spectators as it is for the students," said Jim Muntz, president and chief operating officer, CL&P. "They know how to make science and learning fun and these grants will help many Connecticut teams produce some very impressive entries."
Applications for the CL&P/Yankee Gas grants are available at http://www.cl-p.com/Home/Community/FIRST/. The deadline for applications is February 27. Winning teams will be notified by March 9.
Over 1,500 high school students are expected to compete in the 2012 Connecticut FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, March 29 - 31 at Hartford's Connecticut Convention Center.
