BERLIN, Conn. – November 7, 2011 – Nearly 2,700 utility crews continue their efforts to restore power to the remaining Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) customers affected by last week's snowstorm.
CL&P has also announced it has assigned two of its top executives to oversee the work being done in the Farmington Valley and in Tolland County.
James A. Muntz, president of Northeast Utilities Transmission, has been assigned to CL&P's Simsbury Area Work Center and will drive the remaining restoration work being done in that area. Ken Bowes, CL&P's vice president of Energy Delivery Services, has been assigned to CL&P's Tolland Area Work Center and is now in charge of the restoration work there.
Both of these leaders previously served as Vice President of Operations for CL&P and have been charged with improving communications and coordination with town officials.
"Jim and Ken clearly know what they have to do to get power back on to our remaining customers," said Jeff Butler, CL&P president and chief operating officer. "All of us are committed to getting this completed as quickly and safely as possible."
CL&P reminds customers that if your neighbors have power and you do not, please call CL&P at 800-286-2000. There are over 220 service crews working exclusively on reattaching the service wire - the line that runs from the utility pole to a home.
The company is again reminding customers that it is waiving late fees and will arrange flexible payment programs for those who experienced unprecedented losses and disruptions to their lives.
CL&P continues to remind customers of the following important safety messages:
· Always assume any downed or hanging wire is live and dangerous. Stay at least 10 feet away and call 9-1-1 immediately to report the dangerous situation.
· To avoid the accumulation of deadly carbon monoxide, only use a generator outdoors. Never use a generator indoors, in an attached garage, a basement or a crawl space. Make sure it has been installed correctly into your home’s wiring to avoid “backfeeding” onto our system which can endanger our crews.
