CL&P's Live Green - Win Green Contest

BERLIN, Conn. March 23, 2011 – With nine days left to vote, Rockville High School is the current leader for the "People's Choice" in Connecticut Light & Power's Live Green-Win Green contest. You have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 to visit www.clpenvironments.com, click on the Live Green-Win Green panel, and vote for your favorite. The entry receiving the most votes - the People's Choice - is automatically placed in the contest finals, which will be judged by a distinguished panel of Connecticut educators and environmental leaders.

More than 15,000 votes have been cast. As of 8 a.m. today, the top five for People's Choice are:
1. Rockville High School
2. Staples High School, Westport
3. Coginchaug Regional High School, Durham
4. Northwestern Regional High School, Winsted
5. Darien High School

CL&P's Live Green-Win Green contest encourages Connecticut high school students to consider sustainable, environmental projects that could earn their school plenty of “green” to help implement those strategies and make their schools operate in a more environmentally beneficial manner. Students, through a chosen faculty advisor or school administrator, submitted a video and essay that demonstrates what their school currently does to conserve energy and be more environmentally responsible, and to propose a significant future “green” project they would like to implement at their school. The contest was open to all high schools within CL&P’s service area and 21 high schools are participating.

The winning high school will receive a $20,000 award from CL&P to help fund their proposed project. Three other schools will be chosen as runners-up and each will receive a $5,000 award from the company for their projects.

Winners will be announced in early April.
