SUFFIELD, Connecticut, March 26, 2002 – As part of The Connecticut Light and Power Company’s (CL&P) continuing efforts to improve service reliability, 28 miles of electric distribution lines in Vernon will undergo scheduled tree-trimming. In addition to the regularly-scheduled maintenance of tree and brush work, enhanced tree-trimming will be performed alongside 2 miles of primary lines called "backbones," which feed CL&P's electrical infrastructure in Suffield. The project will begin at the end of April and is expected to be completed by the end of May.
CL&P’s reliability projects such as tree-trimming increase our ability to deliver the electricity that will be necessary to meet today’s growing energy requirements along with the future economic growth of our communities. In addition, this work is designed to prevent electrical outages and minimize the duration of an interruption if one does occur. The trimming also provides sufficient working space for line workers to maintain safe working clearances when repairing power lines at night and during inclement weather.
Asplundh Tree Experts crews will be performing the tree-trimming and will work to create an average clearance zone of 8 feet alongside electric lines, 15 feet above electric lines, and 10 feet beneath the lowest wire.
“The enhanced tree-trimming program is designed to find and remove hazardous trees and limbs that have weakened with old age, disease or insects, and have the potential to break and fall on the lines,” said Steve Child, CL&P arborist for the Tolland Division.
The tree trimming will be done in the areas along Route 75, Route 168, in the center of town north of Brainard Road and Mountain Road.
Prior to performing any tree work, representatives from Asplundh Tree Experts conduct an inspection and residents will be informed of the intended work.
