CL&P Ready for Winter Weather
Customers encouraged to prepare for possible power outages

BERLIN, Conn. (February 12, 2014) – As another winter storm makes its way up the East Coast, Connecticut Light & Power is prepared to safely and quickly respond to any power outages that might occur. The company will activate its emergency response plan tomorrow morning and will have crews standing by across the state. The forecast calls for heavy, wet snow in some areas which could pose a threat to trees and electrical equipment, possibly causing power outages.

CL&P is reminding customers to report an outage at 800-286-2000 and also to stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power lines and immediately call 911 to report them.

The company is also encouraging customers to prepare by assembling or restocking a storm kit and making arrangements to look out for their families, friends and neighbors.

CL&P’s "Shopping for a Storm Kit" video on YouTube (http://YouTu.be/X8Y_M4SO5oE) highlights the contents of a storm kit, including:

Customers who are dependent on electricity for critical medical needs are urged to make preparations now to switch to a backup source or move to an alternate location if necessary.
