(BERLIN, Conn. – February 11, 2013) Working around the clock, Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) has restored nearly all customers who lost power as a result of this blizzard's high winds and heavy snow. Hundreds of outside line and tree workers came to assist CL&P's crews in restoring power to over 73,000 customers.
“Responding to this blizzard has been a community-wide effort and we greatly appreciate the assistance we received from the state Department of Transportation, local Departments of Public Works and emergency responders,” said Bill Quinlan, CL&P Senior Vice President of Emergency Preparedness. “We appreciate our customers' patience as our employees worked tirelessly in hazardous conditions to make repairs.”
The record-breaking snowfall made restoration work especially challenging, and in some areas, extensive snow removal was required before crews could access equipment to make repairs.
Since restoration in Connecticut is wrapping up, CL&P is sending a team of about 50 employees, including line workers, supervisors and support personnel, to assist its sister company, NSTAR. The team will be working in southeast Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, where there has been devastating damage to the electric system.
Today, CL&P crews continue to address new customer outages as they occur.
