Night Detours Planned for Norwalk Intersection

BERLIN, Connecticut, December 4, 2006 — Construction of a new Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) transmission line connecting Norwalk to Stamford will make it necessary to close the intersection of New Canaan Avenue (Route 123) and Riverside Avenue in Norwalk during evening work hours and detour traffic around the site.

The traffic detours will be used only at night, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for about 45 work days. Full use of the intersection will be restored each morning at the end of the work shift.

Two separate detours will be set up during the construction shifts. They will be:

1. Riverside Avenue will be closed south of the New Canaan Avenue intersection.

Southbound traffic on New Canaan Avenue heading toward Riverside Avenue will be detoured to continue on New Canaan Avenue and south onto Route 7 to Exit 1. Traffic will then be directed to turn right at the end of the exit and head west on Belden Avenue (Route 1).
Northbound traffic on Connecticut Avenue heading toward Riverside Avenue will be detoured to northbound Route 7 to Exit 2 and New Canaan Avenue.

As construction work progresses through the New Canaan Avenue/Riverside Avenue intersection, a second detour will replace the previous detour.

2. New Canaan Avenue will be closed east of the Riverside Avenue intersection.

Eastbound traffic on New Canaan Avenue will be detoured south onto Riverside Avenue, left onto Belden Avenue, and left onto Route 7 north to Exit 2 and New Canaan Avenue.
Westbound traffic coming from Main Street will be detoured onto Route 7 south to Exit 1 and head west on Belden Avenue.

Traffic accessing homes and businesses at the south end of Riverside Avenue will have access near the Belden Avenue/Spring Hill Avenue intersection.

Emergency vehicles will have access to business and homes on Riverside Avenue throughout this phase of construction. CL&P representatives are in close contact with first responders.
