CL&P Continues Use of Innovative Transmission Technology in Manchester
Work strengthens transmission network

BERLIN, Connecticut, September 24, 2010 — The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P), part of Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU), is continuing to strengthen its high-voltage transmission network in Manchester, Conn., using a state-of-the-art connector technology. The cable connection process modernizes the power grid so that CL&P can continue to provide safe and reliable energy to its customers.

The work is scheduled from September 27 to October 8, 2010, and is not expected to interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.

CL&P will be performing this work at two sites on a CL&P transmission right-of-way on the south side of Manchester. One work site is adjacent to Bidwell Street and Wetherell Street. The second work site is adjacent to Saddle Hill Road and Joan Circle.

The transmission line connector work creates a sound that is similar to the final aerial burst of a commercial fireworks display. The process is safe and has been approved by federal, state and local officials. Detonations will be scheduled each day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

Similar work is being planned for October and November 2010. Schedule updates will be mailed to residents once the dates for this work are made final.
