CL&P Replaces Wire over Route 9
Work upgrades communication among electric substations

BERLIN, Connecticut, September 14, 2010 — The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P), part of Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU), is continuing to strengthen its high-voltage transmission network in central Connecticut, while improving communication among electric substations.

Crews will be replacing an overhead non-energized ground wire with a new fiber optic cable. The fiber optic cable will be placed across Route 9 at the northerly end of the ramps for Christian Lane in Berlin. This work will not interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.

The work is planned for Saturday, September 18, 2010, starting at 6:00 a.m. The rain date for this work is Sunday, September 19, 2010.

A helicopter will be used to attach and remove hardware on five structures west of Route 9. To ensure the wire does not sag below a safe level, a crane will be positioned beneath the wire on the northbound right lane and shoulder.

Connecticut State Police will manage motor vehicle traffic through the work area. Motorists are urged to maintain a safe speed when driving through this, and all construction zones.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please call the CL&P Transmission Information Line at 1-800-793-2202 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Calls received outside of these hours will be returned promptly on the next business day.
