Helicopter Used to Upgrade CL&P Lines
Project to improve communication among electric substations

BERLIN, Connecticut, August 10, 2011 — Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) is continuing to strengthen its high-voltage transmission network in western Connecticut.

A helicopter will be used to support some of the work required to replace the existing non-energized ground wire with a new wire containing fiber optic cable. This new ground wire will be installed on existing electric transmission structures located along a utility right-of-way which runs from northern Bethel, crossing into Danbury and Brookfield on the way to northern New Milford, and will significantly improve communications between substations.

Using a helicopter saves time, and lessens possible disturbances to the environment. These flights will reduce the need to transport linemen and heavy equipment into remote and rugged areas of the right-of-way.

The work is scheduled to be performed from August 15, 2011, to early November, weather permitting. This work will not interrupt electric service to customers in the area.

If customers have any questions or concerns regarding this project work, they should call the CL&P Transmission Information Line at 1-800-793-2202 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Calls received outside of these hours will be returned promptly on the next business day.
