CL&P Continues Use of Innovative Transmission Technology in Middletown
Work strengthens transmission network
BERLIN, Connecticut, May 12, 2010
— The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P), part of Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU), is continuing to strengthen its high-voltage transmission network in Middletown, Conn., using a state-of-the-art connector technology. The innovative cable connection process enhances the CL&P transmission system to provide safe and reliable energy to its customers.
The work is scheduled from May 13 to 21, 2010, and will not interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.
CL&P is performing this work at two sites on a CL&P transmission right-of-way on the south side of Middletown. One work site is adjacent to River Road, near the Kleen Energy facility. The second work site is adjacent to Freeman Road.
The transmission line connector work creates a sound that is similar to the final aerial burst of a commercial fireworks display. The process is safe and has been approved by federal, state and local officials. Detonations will be scheduled each day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.
