CL&P to String New Lines with Helicopter
BERLIN, Conn., August 15, 2012
—Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) will be using a helicopter to help string new high-voltage transmission lines in Waterford, Conn. Use of the helicopter reduces the amount of time needed to complete the wire-stringing process from days to hours, compared to conventional, ground-based cable-pulling methods.
The helicopter crew is scheduled to work on Monday, August 20, 2012, weather permitting. While the typical flight will last just a few hours, helicopter activity will occur sometime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with additional flights planned for September 2012.
The transmission project in Waterford is designed to strengthen the region’s power grid and improve reliability of the lines.
