CL&P to String New Lines with Helicopter

BERLIN, Conn., August 15, 2012 —Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) will be using a helicopter to help string new high-voltage transmission lines in Waterford, Conn. Use of the helicopter reduces the amount of time needed to complete the wire-stringing process from days to hours, compared to conventional, ground-based cable-pulling methods.

The helicopter crew is scheduled to work on Monday, August 20, 2012, weather permitting. While the typical flight will last just a few hours, helicopter activity will occur sometime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with additional flights planned for September 2012.

The transmission project in Waterford is designed to strengthen the region’s power grid and improve reliability of the lines.

Customers with questions or concerns related to this work may call CL&P’s Transmission Information Line at 1-800-793-2202, or send an e-mail to
