| WHAT: | Northeast Utilities has agreed to extend by 180 days a statutory deadline for a final decision on the company's 345-kV transmission upgrade from Bethel to Norwalk. We have not withdrawn the application. The extension provides the Connecticut Siting Council with an additional six months to reach a final decision on NU's application. |
| WHY: | A moratorium and several task forces have been established by the General Assembly to study the electric needs of the state. These groups will be completing their work no sooner than early 2003, and a deadline extension was needed to allow the Council time to consider findings related to NU's transmission upgrade. |
| WHEN: | The Connecticut Siting Council is required by law to render a decision on an application one year from the date it is filed. NU's transmission upgrade application was filed October 16, 2001, giving the Council to Oct. 15, 2002 to reach a final decision. The extension pushes the deadline ahead to April 14, 2003. |
