CL&P Breaks Ground on New Substation
Work upgrades service to Greens Farms section of town

BERLIN, Connecticut, September 15, 2010 — The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P), part of Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU), continues to strengthen reliability and meet growing customer demand for electricity in Westport, Connecticut, with construction of a new substation in the Greens Farms area of town.

The work on the new Sherwood Substation starts this week and is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2012. Construction of the new substation will not interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.

Planning for the new facility, which was approved by the Connecticut Siting Council in May, began more than two years ago. Substations that now serve the southeast section of town have been operating at or near capacity in recent years. During peak usage, these substations have been supplemented through the use of temporary mobile equipment, as necessary.

The new facility will be located on a parcel of land currently owned by CL&P adjacent to the railroad underpass on New Creek Road. To preserve the wetland on the property and allow better screening with planned landscaping, the new substation will be located within an area of the property closest to the railroad underpass.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please call the CL&P Transmission Information Line at 1-800-793-2202 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Calls received outside of these hours will be returned promptly on the next business day.
